It can be tough to figure out how to handle awkward situations. I thought it might be helpful if I went over one of the techniques I use to fight awkwardness in certain sticky social situations.

Like say you and a friend are out clamming this morning and your friend spots one of his old friends that you don’t know and they start chatting for like ever and not even about clamming, just about like stupid mutual friends they have that you don’t even know and they’re not including you so you’re just standing there like some silent awkward whale penis.

That’s awkward.

In this awkward situation, I think honesty is the best policy.

Firmly and loudly state: I feel awkward.

If they say anything to you, simply repeat your truth even more firmly and loudly: I feel awkward!

Each time they respond, ignore the content of their response and repeat your truth even more forcefully: I FEEL AWKWARD.

Repeat until there is no more awkwardness.
